Case Studies
For 125 years we have helped over 2 million children, so we've a huge amount of stories to tell. Detailed here are just a few to show the difference we can make!
Bridget
Bridget is eight. For children such as Bridget, getting out of the city means getting away from a violent environment, as much as escaping the tower block she lives in. Her break with CCHF All About Kids was much more than the chance to glimpse the sea. For this particular eight year old the break was about giving her a lifeline to sanity. Bridget lives in a run-down part of London and has grown up watching the live-in boyfriend beat up her mother. Despite court injunctions the violence continued for five years. Bridget is a friendly girl, but became wary of people and was described by her mother as being "very clingy".

Cameron
Cameron is nine. Very little is known about his background. His parents abandoned him in the UK two years ago. He is a ‘looked after’ child, living with foster parents who are finding it difficult to cope with his challenging behaviour. He is wary of his peers, has few belongings and has a tendency to covet others’ belongings and steal. Whilst on a CCHF All About Kids break Cameron was able to express himself through clay modeling, experience life in the countryside, go swimming, and visit the Chinese State Circus.

Tom
Tom is a nine year old carer. He lives with his mother who is bed-bound on an inner London council estate. Tom and his mother are very isolated as neither of them leaves the house very much. Tom’s mother gets very depressed as she is not able to care for Tom adequately but is herself cared for by him. Tom loves and cares for his mother and worries a great deal about her but he gets frustrated and angry because he has so few opportunities unlike the boys he goes to school with. Tom was worried that he might be bullied if he went away on his own with CCHF All About Kids as he is bullied at school. Working with our skilled staff Tom has now been on two CCHF All About Kids breaks. He has been cared for and given the opportunity to talk about himself when he wants to and encouraged to play, make friends and be as energetic as he wants to be
